British man injured and German tourist killed in suspected Paris terror attack

A British man was among those injured in a suspected terrorist attack in Paris which left a German tourist dead, the Foreign Office has confirmed.

A 25-year-old man, who was said to be undergoing psychiatric treatment, attacked a German couple with a knife on Saturday night, killing the man, and used a hammer to injure two others, according to reports.

French officials said the man cried 'Allahu Akbar', which means God is great, at the scene. The Foreign Office on Sunday confirmed it was 'supporting a British man who was injured in Paris' and said its officials were 'in contact with the local authorities'. He hasn't been named and his age isn't known. The extent of his injuries also hasn't been revealed.

The suspect was later arrested after he was tasered by police and expressed anguish in custody about Muslims dying, particularly in Afghanistan and the Palestinian territories, and claimed that France was an accomplice, French interior minister Gerald Darmanin reportedly said.

The attacker cried 'Allahu Akbar', Mr Darmanin added. He said the man 'doubtless would have killed others if not for the quick response by police. The anti-terrorism prosecutor's office confirmed it has opened an investigation.

In a statement to the PA news agency, a spokesperson for the Foreign Office said: “We are supporting a British man who was injured in Paris and are in contact with the local authorities”.
