Brett Hodgson hails Hull FC character and gives injury update Ligi Sao, Jordan Lane and Carlos Tuimavave

Brett Hodgson has hailed character after watching his side see off Wigan Warriors 31-22 at the MKM Stadium. The Black and Whites scored six tries on the day to bounce back to winning ways against Matt Peet’s side, who will head down to the capital to take on Huddersfield Giants in the Challenge Cup final next week.

Adam Swift scored either side of a Darnell McIntosh effort to ensure Hull dominated in the opening stages and Josh Reynolds ensured Hull went in at the break with a six point lead. That lead was cancelled out when Bevan French touched down in the second half but FC hit back to seal the points and close the gap between themselves and the top four through Carlos Tuimavave and Chris Satae.

“A win built on a lot of character,” Hodgson said after the game. “We were down to 14 men there and players were playing injured.

“There was a period in the second half where I thought they were coming back and we were able to turn it with a fortunate try from Carlos in the corner but a good try nevertheless. I’m really pleased with the win.

"I felt that even going into half-time the scoreline didn’t dictate how dominant we were but to be fair to Wigan they came to play, they were very physical and they threw everything at us. With one eye on next week it’s difficult but our boys responded well.

“Great to hear the crowd get us home as well I thought they were unbelievable today. We’re pleased that we got the result.”

The Black and Whites picked up three injury concerns during the game with Ligi Sao, Carlos Tuimavave and Jordan Lane all set to be examined in the coming days.
