Brentford make transfer announcement as Man United face Bryan Mbeumo deadline

Brentford have announced the signing of Jordan Henderson - as Manchester United continue to pursue Bryan Mbeumo.

The former Liverpool captain has joined Keith Andrews' side on a two-year deal after departing Ajax this summer. "When we became aware of Jordan’s availability, it was a pretty simple decision," Andrews said.

"We did our due diligence around his recent games to see where he is: he’s still phenomenally fit and he’s still phenomenally motivated to achieve things in the game, having already achieved a lot. With the void of experienced players leaving the building - Christian Norgaard, Mark Flekken and Ben Mee - it was important to replace that."

Henderson's arrival comes as United continue in negotiations with Brentford to sign Mbeumo. Ruben Amorim's side remain in hot pursuit of the Cameroon international, with the United head coach eager to strengthen his attacking options.

United have already seen two bids turned down by the London club, even though Mbeumo has expressed a clear desire to join the Old Trafford outfit. The Manchester Evening News reported on Monday that the club is in a race against time to sign the forward before he can join the squad for their three pre-season matches ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

But a report from The Athletic states that United and Brentford have yet to narrow the gap on a transfer fee. The negotiations remain stalled, with a 'considerable gap' reported between the two clubs.

Meanwhile, Mbeumo has joined up with his Brentford teammates as they continue their own preparations.
