Brendan Rodgers responds to Gustaf Lagerbielke Celtic transfer links as boss admits 'options' with Carl Starfelt on exit brink

Brendan Rodgers has responded to Elfsborg confirming Celtic's interest in Gustaf Lagerbielke.

Stefan Andreasson, a director at the Swedish club, revealed the the Hoops were interested in the Swedish centre back but had not yet begun negotiations after reports claimed that the Premiership champions had made a £3million bid. The 23-year-old has since said it's "fun" to be lined to big clubs and that it would be an "honour" to join the Hoops.

Rodgers didn't deny interest in the defender, who Record Sport revealed holds the title of Baron in his homeland and is No 254 in line to the Swedish throne. But he was giving little away in terms of what stage the deal was at and whether or when it was likely to go through, but promised to say more if and when everything gets rubber stamped. "Clearly, when there's a sign that we might lose a player, we have to look at other options to bring people in. We'll announce it when the player is signed and sealed and speak more on it then."

Rodgers was more forthcoming on Carl Starfelt. The Swede is in Spain for his Celta Vigo medical with a deal expected to go through sooner rather than later. Rodgers added: "He's travelled for a medical but there's nothing confirmed as of yet on that. But we do expect it to go through. He's been a great servant to the club. I understand and the club understands his position.
