Brendan Rodgers makes recommendations on key Leicester City transfer decision

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers will be putting forward his recommendations as the club look to appoint a new head of recruitment.

Rodgers’ long-time right-hand man Lee Congerton left the role this month having followed the manager down from Celtic to the King Power Stadium in 2019. He has now moved to Italian side Atalanta, where he has become sporting director.

City are in the process of finding a replacement for Congerton, seeking someone to take the lead on transfers and carry on the work that has seen them earn a reputation as one of the Premier League’s best operators in the market.

“It’s something we’re looking at with the club,” Rodgers said. “Lee did a fantastic job and brought in some fantastic players and set up some processes for us that will help going forward.

“He’s had the opportunity to go into a different role, a role with a lot more influence and an opportunity to go back abroad again and work for a fantastic club. We wish him the best.

“We will look to get someone else in that allows us to keep moving forward and keep the recruitment going, which has been at a really good level for a number of years. We’ll look to bring someone into that position. The club is going through that process now.”

Rodgers has said that while chief executive Susan Whelan and director of football Jon Rudkin will lead the search for a new head of recruitment, he will be able to put forward his thoughts, as he does on every major club matter.

“Like in all the processes, I will have a say in it,” he added. “The club is most important and ultimately all the decisions will be made in the best interests of the club.
