Brendan Rodgers explains Leicester City change as Gary Lineker delivers verdict
Here’s the latest Leicester City news on Monday, August 8, 2022.
Leicester City threw away a two-goal advantage in their Premier League opener to give up a chance to turn the mood at the King Power Stadium.
Timothy Castagne and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall had put City into a commanding, deserved lead that looked set to secure three points and wash away the blues of an inactive summer in the transfer market. But City lost their way on the hour, and Ivan Toney got one back before Josh Dasilva curled in an equaliser five minutes from time. The match ended in a smattering of boos.
It had looked to be a season where injuries would not play their part in the story, but with Ricardo Pereira and Harvey Barnes hobbling off in the final pre-season friendly, Rodgers was forced to tinker his team for the opening game. Daniel Amartey came in for a surprise start in a back three, while transfer-linked Wesley Fofana, Youri Tielemans, and James Maddison all kept their places.

The Leicester City boss made just a single substitution during the 2-2 opening-weekend draw with the Bees, taking off goalscorer Dewsbury-Hall and placing Daka up front alongside Jamie Vardy. But it did not help City take back control of the game, and Brentford used their momentum to score a late equaliser.
Josh Dasilva was allowed to move into the space that Dewsbury-Hall would have occupied, the City midfield and defence failing to put pressure, the Brentford substitute curling into the net. It completed the comeback for the visitors, with City having been 2-0 up and comfortable on the hour.
