Chelsea agree deal to sign Wesley Fofana from Leicester City

Chelsea have finally reached an agreement with Leicester City to sign Wesley Fofana, with a fourth bid for the defender eventually successful.

Chelsea news, exclusives and analysis

The third bid earlier this week had been worth £60million plus an extra £10m in add-ons, but the Foxes turned down the offer for the 21-year-old.

The Athletic reports that a breakthrough has been made since then, though, and although the transfer fee has not been revealed, Chelsea appear to have got their man.

The French centre-back had made it clear he was keen to leave Leicester amid interest from the Blues, and he was left out of the Foxes team for the game with Southampton last weekend as a result.

Youri Tielemans, who has been linked with Arsenal, was left on the bench for the clash with the Saints while Fofana didn’t even make the squad, with Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers saying they were not in the right frame of mind to play.

The future of Tielemans is not clear, with his contract expiring at the King Power next year, but it seems Fofana is on his way out of the club before the end of the transfer window.

Chelsea have been keen to add defensive recruits all summer after the departures of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger on free transfers to Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.

Kalidou Koulibaly has been brought in from Napoli, and while he has already impressed with a superb goal against Tottenham, he let himself down with a baffling sending off against Leeds last weekend.
