Brenda Fruhvirtova: 14-year-old history maker prepares for WTA main draw debut
Tennis prodigy Brenda Fruhvirtova is set to make her Women’s Tennis Association main draw debut this week at just 14 years of age.
After catching the eye of the world in the last few weeks, the Czech will take to the main stage at the Abierto Akron Zapopan.
Fruhvirtova will become the youngest player to compete in a Tour match since USA’s Madison Keys in 2009.
A clash against Sloane Stephens awaits her in the first round of the WTA 250 event in Mexico this week.
The Czech eliminated Italy’s Sara Errani and Leonie Kung of Switzerland to qualify for the main draw.
Fruhvirtova enters the tournament in exceptional form, having already won two International Tennis Federation events in Argentina earlier this month.
After beating Brazil’s Carolina Alves in the first Tucuman tournament, the teenager defeated home competitor Paula Ormaechea, who is ranked more than 250 places higher than the Czech.
