BREAKING: Woman dies after being hit by train at Greater Manchester station

A woman has died after being hit by a train at a station in Stockport.

Emergency services responded to reports of a 'casualty on the tracks' at Gatley station at around 8.50am yesterday morning (Sunday). Sadly, a woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her death is not being treated as suspicious, a spokesperson for British Transport Police said. A file will be prepared for the coroner.

In a statement, the BTP spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Gatley railway station at 8.50am on 14 May to reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, and sadly a woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious. A file will be a prepared for the coroner."

Yesterday morning, all train lines were blocked between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport due to the incident. Services did not stop at Gatley.
