BREAKING: Street cordoned off with smoke seen coming from house - live updates

A street has been cordoned off this afternoon (May 12) with smoke seen coming from a house in Fairfield.

Fire crews are currently on the scene at Audenshaw Hall Grove, a small residential street near Fairfield train station and the golf club in Tameside.

Plumes of smoke can be seen escaping from the windows of one property on the street, with a number of fire engines in attendance and a cordon in place.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have been approached for full details on this ongoing incident.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said:

Just after 3pm this afternoon (Friday 12th May), three fire engines from Gorton, Philips Park and Ashton fire station were called to reports of a building fire involving a property on Audenshaw Hall Grove, Audenshaw.”

Crews arrived quickly at scene. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels, a jet and positive pressure ventilation to extinguish the fire.

Firefighters have been in attendance for around an hour and are still at the scene.”

We are awaiting full confirmation of the nature of this incident from the fire service.

Residents have reported a number of fire engines in attendance as well as police and paramedics.
