Man injured in early morning attack as police cordon off road in Chinatown with forensics at scene

A man was left injured in an early morning attack near Manchester city centre on Wednesday (May 24). Detectives and forensics officers cordoned off Nicholas Street, in Chinatown, at around 5.40am.

Police had been called to reports of an assault, where an injured 21-year-old man was taken to hospital from the scene. His condition is not life-threatening or life-changing.

Pictures from the scene showed a cordon in place along Nicholas Street, beside the junction with St James' Street, with a number of forensics officers combing the area and objects for evidence.

The scene remained in place for a number of hours after the attack, with multiple police vehicles and detectives also pictured within the cordon.

An investigation into the attack has now been launched with enquiries continuing. Nobody has been arrested in relation to the incident.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Officers were called at around 5:40am this morning (24/5/2023) to reports of an assault of a man on Nicholas Street in Manchester.

"A 21-year-old man was taken to hospital with injuries although these were thankfully not life-threatening or life-changing. No arrests have been made at this time and enquiries are ongoing."
