BREAKING: Road shut after crash with air ambulance at the scene

A motorcyclist in his 60s has been seriously hurt after coming off his bike in Tameside this afternoon. The incident happened shortly before 1.05pm when the rider was apparently unseated on Huddersfied Road in Mossley.

Huddersfield Road has been partially closed in both directions while the emergency services dealt with the incident. Photos from the scene showed an air ambulance had landed on nearby Stamford golf course.

A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said officers were called to reports of a 'concern for welfare' after a man appeared to have fallen from his motorbike on Huddersfield Road.

The nature and seriousness of the man's injuries are as yet unclear.

Huddersfield Road has been partially closed in both directions between Micklehurst Road to Staley Road, causing heavy traffic in the area.

A spokesman for North West Ambulance Service said a man in his 60s was taken to hospital to be treated for 'major-trauma related injuries'. An ambulance, air ambulance, and consultant paramedic attended the scene, according to NWAS.
