BREAKING: Road closed following major smash involving police car in Oldham - updates

A road has been closed following a major crash involving a police car in Oldham this afternoon.

The crash happened on the A669 Middleton Road - pictures circulating on social media showed a significant response by the emergency services with police and paramedics at the scene. Photos also show a badly damaged police vehicle next to a red car.

Stagecoach, from its Manchester and Wigan Twitter account, gave brief details about the incident, which has affected its 415 service.

The bus company tweeted: "Due to an RTC on the A669 Middleton Rd, services will divert via Featherstall Road South & Arkwright Street in both directions until the incident is resolved, please allow extra time for your journey with us this afternoon."
