BREAKING: Major delays on M6 with carriageway blocked on both sides due to multiple incidents - latest updates

There are major delays on the M6 this afternoon as multiple incidents have blocked a section of the motorway on both sides.

Three out of four lanes are currently closed northbound near Junction 17 for Sandbach, with traffic reportedly queuing back several miles to Junction 16 for Stoke-on-Trent.

This is due to an overturned trailer, according to Highways North West. Traffic officers are said to be on the scene with recovery agents 'on route' to the scene. Drivers are being urged to avoid the area or expect delays of at least 25 minutes in the area.

Eyewitnesses have also reported another crash on the southbound side of the motorway involving several cars just before Junction 17 of the motorway.

It's thought to have involved four different cars, with traffic queuing back to Junction 18 for Knutsford. Road cameras show standstill traffic in the area.

All lanes on M6 southbound between J17 and J16 have now reopened. However, there is still expected to be some standstill traffic.

INRIX also reports that traffic has returned to normal on the M6 northbound between J16 and J17.

Traffic monitoring platform INRIX reports that there is congestion up to junction 18 (for Middlewich/Holmes Chapel) on the M6 southbound.

National Highways have just posted on social media to say an overturned trailer has now been recovered from the scene and all lanes on the M6 northbound have now been reopened.
