Severe delays and two lanes closed on M62 due to incident - latest updates

There are severe delays on the M62 this evening as two lanes have been closed following an ongoing incident.

The westbound section of the motorway is partially shut between Junction 23 for Abbey Hey Road (Huddersfield) to junction 22 for Denshaw. Queues are snaking back to junction 25 for Brighouse.

According to traffic site, INRIX, the motorway has been blocked for around 35 minutes due to an accident. Emergency services are said to be on the scene.

National Highways tweeted: "Lane 1 (of 3) has now reopened on the #M62 westbound between J23 (#Huddersfield) and J22 (#Denshaw).

"Lanes 2 and 3 remain closed whilst emergency services remain in attendance. There is currently approx. 8 miles of congestion on approach, back to J25."

Severe delays and one lane closed due to accident on M62 Westbound from J23 A640 New Hey Road (Huddersfield) to J22 A672 (Rishworth Moor). Congestion to Hartshead Moor Services. The motorway was blocked for around thirty five minutes, after which lane three (of three) remain closed. Traffic is also slow in the opposite direction. Hartshead Moor Services is between J25 and J26."

UPDATE - Lanes 1 and 2 (of 3) have now reopened on the #M62 westbound between J23 (#Huddersfield) and J22 (#Denshaw).

Lane 3 remains closed for recovery.
