BREAKING: Long delays with lane closed after crash near Simister Island - latest updates

Drivers are facing long delays this evening following a crash near Simister Island. There are currently queues following an incident on the M60 anticlockwise near junction 18.

One lane is currently closed. Traffic is building up approaching the scene in both directions, from junction 17 at Prestwich on the clockwise carriageway, and from the M62 westbound near Rochdale.

Queues are also building on the M60 anticlockwise approaching Simister Island, from Blackley at junction 20. An update from the Inrix traffic monitoring system said: "Long delays and one lane closed due to accident on M60 anticlockwise at J18 M66 J4 (Simister Island)."

North West Motorway Police says the crash took place between junctions 18 and 17 on the anticlockwise M60.

The vehicles involved have now been moved to the hard shoulder with recovery work underway.

Delays remain in the area.
