BREAKING: Fourth arrest made following deaths of Vietnamese men at Oldham mill

A fourth suspect has been arrested in connection with the deaths of four Vietnamese nationals at an Oldham mill. The remains of Uoc Van Nguyen, Cuong Van Chu, Duong Van Nguyen and Nam Thanh Lee were recovered during a six-month search of Bismark House Mill.

It followed a fire at the building, on Bower Street, last May 7. The search was initiated after demolition workers discovered human remains on July 23 last year.

Police believe the men are likely to have been victims of modern-day slavery. Officers also found evidence part of the mill was being used as a cannabis farm.

This morning (May 17) a 36-year-old man was arrested at a police station on suspicion of manslaughter, cultivation of cannabis and participating in the activities of an organised crime group. He remains in police custody for questioning.

Three men had previously been arrested in connection with the deaths, including a 34-year-old last week. All three have since been bailed pending further enquiries.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Greater Manchester Police and His Majesty’s Coroner are continuing to work with partner agencies to complete the formal identification process and organise repatriation. Anyone with information should contact Greater Manchester Police via 101.
