Brandon Williams Says He Felt Christian Eriksen 'Needed A Hug'

Brandon Williams has explained what he was thinking in the moment he ended up hugging Brentford midfielder Christian Eriksen.

Last weekend, Williams went viral for a video that showed him looking like he was about to hit Eriksen, only to end up embracing his opponent seconds later.

"Obviously, it was just a moment that happened, it was just instincts," Williams told Sky Sports.

"I got past him and I felt him pull me down, so we was on the attack and I was really angry.

"I was going to…hold him but I know what he’s been through, and it’s incredible what he’s done, and he’s back now.

"It was something special for him to be on the pitch for himself, and to be involved in that, I felt like he needed a hug.

"It’s something that no player wants to go through, it was amazing that he’s back and he’s a top quality player and I’m sure he’ll be back to his best very soon."

The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was released by the Italian champions and was free to find a new club, signing for Brentford at the beginning of last month.

Speaking on Monday Night Football this week, Teddy Sheringham said that he thought Spurs should have looked to re-sign their former midfielder.

"To be honest, I think it is an absolute masterstroke from Brentford to sign him. He has obviously had his problems, he wanted to get back involved and play regular football," the former Spurs striker said.

"There are a lot of Tottenham fans maybe thinking why aren’t we going in for him if he is back available.

"You saw him playing passes like he did at the weekend, he is a quality player and he could be the difference between Brentford staying up with those little bits of quality that he shows."
