Boy killed after falling through greenhouse while 'garden hopping'

A 17-year-old boy was killed in a freak accident while out 'garden hopping', an inquest heard.

Mohammed Qais Ratyal 'fell into a greenhouse' while he and his pals were setting off rockets and jumping over garden fences on Bonfire Night last year, Yorkshire Live reports. The 17-year-old suffered devastating fatal injuries after being stabbed through his chest.

A coroner in Bradford concluded he died in an 'accident'. Qais' family said they had been left 'devastated' by what happened to their son.

An inquest into his death heard how Qais was found wearing a balaclava over his face, lying in a pool of blood by a child's swing after his friends alerted residents. West Yorkshire Police said the fence that he jumped over was so high he wouldn't have known the greenhouse was there.

He died in hospital that night. The coroner was told how the teen was in a group that travelled from Bradford to Halifax on November 5, 2022.

The group were later seen on Vickerman Street. Qais' cousin, Ummat Ratyan, said he and Qais were part of a group of 10 to 15 people.

"There were around 200 people firing rockets into the street", he said. "We had rockets too.

"I was wearing a balaclava. We put them on because we were scared the cameras would see us.

"We started running. I followed everyone. We jumped over a wall into allotments and then we jumped over garden fences. Qais led the group. Then I heard some shouting."

He said he found Qais 'sitting and leaning forwards', but he didn't speak and his body flopped and his hands were trembling. He tried to 'lift his head up but couldn't'.

Resident Aleksandra Gizewska said: "I saw people running down my driveway
