Boy, 13, arrested after teenager seriously injured in robbery at Exchange Square tram stop

A 13-year-old boy has been arrested after a teenager was seriously injured during a robbery at a tram stop.

The 14-year-old victim was waiting at the Exchange Square Metrolink station when he was approached by a group of males at about 3pm on Sunday (June 25). He was then pushed to the floor and assaulted before his mobile phone was stolen.

The boy sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. A 13-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of robbery and has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Greater Manchester Police has now issued an appeal for information in connection with the incident.

Detective Sergeant Mark Graham, of GMP’s City of Manchester Central Neighbourhood crime team, said: "We are working hard to bring about justice for the victim. We are investigating this incident and our team will do what we can to protect those in our community.

“This incident happened in a busy area of Manchester and there would have been numerous people stood on the platform at around 3pm on Sunday 25 June who may have seen something. I urge you to do the right thing and report any information that may help us with our investigation. .
