Manchester United to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea after agreeing £60million fee

Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign midfielder Mason Mount from Chelsea for an initial £55million fee, with a further £5million due in add-ons.

Mount has already agreed personal terms with United and will sign a five-year contract, with the option of a further year. He will be the first new arrival in the transfer window once he completes a medical next week, with the 24-year-old currently on holiday.

United had seen three bids for Mount rejected by Chelsea, with the latest for a total of £55million. The Blues were holding out for a fee of £65million, with £58million up-front, but talks between the two clubs have seen them come to an agreement.

It is understood the £5million in add-ons is strongly dependent on appearances and success, with sources insisting United would be happy to eventually pay £60million, given how successful it will mean Mount has been at Old Trafford.

The England international was out of contract at Stamford Bridge next season and wanted to join United, who were reluctant to overpay for somebody they could sign for free in 2024. The England international will now undergo a medical before completing his move to United.

Erik ten Hag wanted to add a younger midfielder to his side this summer and made Mount a priority. He has followed his progress closely since an impressive loan spell at Vitesse Arnhem in the 2017/18 and wanted to sign him on loan for Ajax the following season.

With a deal for Mount now in place, United will turn their attentions to a goalkeeper and a striker as Ten Hag seeks to further strengthen his squad.
