Boxer David Jamieson's 'fire still burns' as he nears ring comeback

Boxer David Jamieson insists the fire still burns as he prepares to make his comeback – and he says he is targeting a title shot in 2024.

Jamieson, 31, suffered bruising title defeats against Mikael Lawal in November 2022 – in which he broke his jaw – and Cheavon Clarke in a final eliminator for the British cruiserweight belt in June 2023, but says getting back on the horse is important.

And the boxer, who lives in Hamilton after recently moving from East Kilbride, says they’ll maybe take a different route this time.

Jamieson said: “I’ll be back probably in February or March.

“There are no dates that are concrete yet, but [promoter] Sam Kynoch’s got that many shows on that I can be in any one of them.

“It’s great to be back. I had a wee bit of time away there, just to let my body reset. It was camp after camp after camp, so I needed to put a wee bit of weight back on my body and let things reset.

“The fire still burns and I’m looking forward to getting back.

“It’s good to be back in the saddle. I’m looking forward to it.”

Jamieson, who won the IBO intercontinental title in February 2022, has had plenty to contend with over the last 18 months, with a dog bite forcing him to pull out of his IBO Intercontinental title defence at the Hydro in May 2022, when he was due to lock horns with Dec Spelman.

So he will hope for a clear run when he targets success in 2024.

He added: “We’ve got a wee roadmap there for us.

“I’m currently still 10th in the UK so we’re looking at maybe two comeback fights, in February or March, and hopefully April, and that sets me up nicely for a big one, maybe back down South again.
