Bournemouth confirm Man City transfer talks after removing Morgan Rogers from EFL squad

Bournemouth are in talks with Manchester City over terminating the loan of forward Morgan Rogers, Cherries boss Scott Parker has confirmed.

Rogers, 19, struggled for starts in the first half of the season, and was exploring a possible loan switch in January to cut short his season-long spell at Bournemouth for another club where he would get more regular playing time.

However, a deadline day transfer did not materialise, and Rogers was forced to return to Bournemouth for the remainder of the season. Just a week later, though, the Cherries omitted the City forward from their 25-man EFL squad for the second half of the campaign, meaning he won't be eligible to play for them in the Championship.

Now, Parker says Bournemouth and City are in talks over the situation, with a recall to the Etihad likely.

"Obviously at the moment he's not in the 25-man squad," Parker said.

"He has not been brought into that. We are in discussions with Man City and yes, I think we will get to a solution with Morgan. So we will see how that pans out."

Last week, Parker explained why Rogers had been left out of the squad, saying: "Morgan won’t be in the 25-man squad. Morgan knew that. For one reason or another, Morgan and his people didn’t seem to be able to get a deal done in the window.

"I don’t know exactly the reason why that was. But at this present moment in time, there are other markets open which obviously could be an option for Morgan to go and play some games.

"For someone so young, I think that’s key. That’s where that situation currently is.

"It hasn’t worked for both really. I love Morgan to bits and tried to help and push, but sometimes obviously things don’t work out in the game we’re in.
