Pep Guardiola confirms Man City striker plans in summer transfer window

Pep Guardiola said that Manchester City need a striker as he confirmed that the club will try again to sign one in the summer transfer window.

The Blues currently top the Premier League with less than a third of the season to go despite failing to land the marquee forward they expected to sign last year. City spent months pursuing Harry Kane after being told Erling Haaland was unavailable, but were knocked back by Tottenham four times before giving up that pursuit.

Having looked into the possibility of signing the 'almost unplayable' Cristiano Ronaldo, who arrives at the Etihad with his United teammates on Sunday looking for a big three points in the derby, City opted against bringing anyone in and have adapted without a recognised No.9. That has not curtailed the intention to sign one though, and Dortmund striker Haaland is the primary target for this summer.

Guardiola would not confirm any names but did say that the Blues would try again to sign a striker, as well as saying that they need one despite the nice comments that have been aimed in their direction this season.

"I think the club needs a striker, definitely," he said. "But, I’m sorry, maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t agree with you. You say we play fantastically well without a striker because we are winning. When we are not winning, you say we need a striker, [that] I’m naive. ‘How do these guys play without a striker? In the Premier League you have to play with a striker’.
