Borna Barisic back from Rangers injury after missing Celtic defeat as Croatia boss chuffed it's 'nothing serious'

Borna Barisic has been declared fit after recovering from an injury that was “nothing serious” but ruled him out of Rangers’ Old Firm derby defeat to Celtic.

The full back has been given a clean bill of health to play in Croatia's Euro 2024 double-header this week after pulling up in the Ibrox side’s heavy defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League play-off in the Netherlands.

Prior to the match against Celtic, Beale said "Barisic will be fine for the weekend after a scan” but he then failed a fitness test on the morning of the showdown with Celtic, with Ibrox boss Michael Beale forced to field right footer Dujon Sterling at left back instead as Ridvan Yilmaz wasn’t fit enough to start. Barisic, 30, was included in Croatia's squad for their games against Latvia in Rijeka and in Yerevan against Armenia. And manager Zlatko Dalic has declared Barisic as fit and ready to try and win his 32nd cap for his country.

Dalic said: "Borna Barisic has had an injury, but the tests we did on him showed that it was nothing serious and he is fit and available for the games. He will be fine. We don't have much time to train and prepare because the games come up very fast. We know what we can do and we will show it."
