Bolton Wanderers season prediction as Derby County & Sheffield Wednesday tipped for success

Bolton Wanderers begin the League One season on the road against Ipswich Town.

Wanderers travel to take on the Tractor Boys this Saturday at Portman Road. They will be seeking to begin the 2022/23 campaign in positive fashion after a top 10 finish last season.

The Whites are seeking to mount a promotion charge this campaign, but will be far from the only side with that ambition. Many ambitious teams will contest League One this campaign and another competitive season is in the offing.

Throughout the campaign, football statistics website FiveThirtyEight is forecasting how the League One table might finish after the results of every matchday, with the season reaching the climax of the regular season at the start of May before the play-offs.

And the top two tipped to make the Championship automatically are Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday. The play-off places are predicted to contain Ipswich Town, Barnsley, MK Dons and Portsmouth.

Pompey are tipped to finish sixth on 72 points and edge out seventh placed Wycombe Wanderers on goal difference. The Whites are predicted to finish a point behind Portsmouth in eighth.

In the relegation zone, Cambridge United, Accrington Stanley, Exeter City and Morecambe are tipped to make the drop to League Two.
