Bolton Wanderers learn Declan John injury timeframe ahead of Charlton Athletic clash

Declan John will only be out of action for up to a fortnight after picking up a calf injury for Bolton Wanderers.

The defender picked up an injury in the warm-up ahead of last weekend's 2-0 loss on the road to Plymouth Argyle. He ended up watching the game from the sidelines at Home Park.

He was not involved for Wanderers as they beat Crewe Alex 4-1 in the Papa Johns Trophy earlier this week. Ian Evatt said after that encounter the Whites were waiting for the results of a scan on the injury.

Fortunately, the results have shown that the defender will not be out of action for too long after suffering minor damage. Evatt also confirmed that striker Jon Dadi Bodvarsson is nearing a return from a hamstring problem.

Evatt said: “It’s not too bad actually. It’s damage to the sheath, outside of the muscle you have a muscle sheath where the muscle moves and where it sits, the sheath on the outside, it’s just been a little bit damaged but a week to two weeks max and it’s nothing serious.

“We haven’t really got Jon going yet and that’s another player once we get him going was exceptional for us last season and he’s going to be a huge player for us. He’s not too far away, he’s improving everyday.”

Wanderers have been boosted with the return of Josh Sheehan from a long injury absence, as well as Eoin Toal making his debut. Both featured in the midweek victory against Crewe.

Evatt was pleased with what he saw from centre half Toal on his Bolton bow and did not look out of place given his short time with the club. On Sheehan, the Bolton boss feels the midfielder will improve will more game time over the coming month.
