Bolton Wanderers figure makes claim over club support
Bolton Wanderers have had a superb few seasons, going from EFL strugglers to sealing a promotion back into League One, as well as a potential top half finish this campaign.
With fans now flocking to watch the team in action and Ian Evatt regularly helping his side to produce the goods, the Wanderers chairman Sharon Brittan has heaped praise on the club’s supporters for their belief in the club and claimed that ‘something special’ is happening with the team at the moment (via the Manchester Evening News).
In terms of on the field, she could be right. The days of Jay-Jay Okocha and Nicolas Anelka in the Premier League are long in the past and the side have been embroiled in some off-field turmoil and financial issues in recent years.
It has led to a sharp decline that saw them go as low as the fourth tier – a huge fall from grace considering where the team once way. However, under the guidance of former player Ian Evatt, they bounced back into League One and have showed no signs of slowing down either. This year, rather than merely consolidate their position, they are eleventh in the standings and have also looked like creeping into play-off contention at times.
Whilst they are unlikely to make a leap into the top six from now until the end of the season with an eleven point gap having opened up, the side can be happy with their performance and the fans certainly believe something special is happening, as they have already flocked to buy over 10,000 season tickets for next campaign.
It has led to Brittan throwing the praise at their supporters, as she told the Manchester Evening News: “This extraordinary show of support confirms once again that we really do have the best and most loyal fans here at Bolton Wanderers.
