Why Kieran Sadlier is suited more at wing-back for Bolton Wanderers than Rotherham United

Ian Evatt says Kieran Sadlier is more suited to playing as a wing-back for Bolton Wanderers than he did for previous club Rotherham United and the Whites boss is pleased the January signing is helping out while the team suffers injuries.

Attacker Sadlier joined Wanderers towards the end of the last transfer window, signing a two-and-a-half year deal after departing the Millers.

He struggled for consistent game time for the Yorkshire side and was played in a system where he was perhaps not deployed in his best position or was able to display his attacking talents.

His former boss Paul Warne has said that Sadlier did not want to fulfill the wing-back role for the Millers and the player himself has candidly admitted that the move to Rotherham was not the right one for him and their style of play did not suit him.

Sadlier has been regularly invovled for Wanderers since his move, mostly with appearances off the bench in his preferred position in the final third.

But he has started the last two games at wing-back due to injuries suffered by Marlon Fossey and Declan John, and could do the same again this evening against Portsmouth.

Though Sadlier is not playing in his natural role, Evatt is full of praise for the job he is doing and hailed his work against Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

The Bolton boss believes he improved as the encounter wore on and that playing as a wing-back for Wanderers is a completely different proposition to doing so for the Millers.
