Bolton defender pinpoints summer improvement, competition with new signing & Wycombe expectation

George Johnston expects Bolton Wanderers to have more possession this weekend when they face Wycombe compared to the opening day draw against Ipswich Town as he detailed his improvements made over the summer.

Wanderers got their campaign up and running last week with a draw at Portman Road against the Tractor Boys. Aaron Morley's penalty was cancelled out by Lee Evans' strike.

The Whites continue a challenging start to the campaign when they host the Chairboys tomorrow for the first game of the League One campaign at the University of Bolton Stadium. Ainsworth's side missed out on promotion to the Championship at the hands of Sunderland in the play-off final last season.

Johnston expects Wanderers to face a completely different proposition tomorrow afternoon when they take on the Chairboys compared to Ipswich. Though there is pressure this season to challenge for promotion, he believes that comes from the dressing room and outside noise is ignored.

Of facing Wycombe, he said: "Different type of game. Still a massively physical game but we will probably have more of the ball and we will be able to play more of the patterns and free-flowing football that we are used to.

"Being at home for the first time this season, we are going to want to put on a show for them so that is hopefully what we will do. The only pressure we have is the one we put on ourselves. In the changing room, we know we are a team that can get promoted out of this division this season. We don’t really listen to the outside noise, only stuff internally."
