Bob MacIntyre gutted to miss Scotland Euro 2024 adventure but Scot aiming for dream double in US Open
Major hopeful Bob MacIntyre admits he’ll be hooked on the Euros while aiming to make it a Tartan Army dream double over in America.
The super Scot’s US Open bid kicks off on Thursday at Pinehurst and he’s praying for an early tee time for the second round so he can catch Scotland’s epic opener against Germany. But he’ll make sure manager Iain Stoddart is close by for updates from Munich even if he is on the fairways in North Carolina. MacIntyre is a massive football fan and will be cheering on Scotland from afar.
And he’s love to give the Tartan Army another reason to roar from across the world. The 27-year-old said: “I’ll just take what tee tee I’m given, but I’m sure the people walking around and whether it’s Stoddy or my coaches, will keep me updated if I’m on the golf course while that’s going on. And hopefully the boys can pull one off and get a win over them.”
MacIntyre will be dialled in for Pinehurst as he looks to keep up his hot streak on the back of his maiden PGA Tour win in Canada last week that secured his place at the US Open. But he admitted the Euros will be the perfect distraction during his down time after spending last weekend’s wait watching shinty.
MacIntyre said: “It’s difficult, especially if you’ve got a late tea time like last Saturday. I need to work out what to do with my tea time when it’s 3:30 in the afternoon because I just felt like I was sitting around all day.
“I was watching the boys play shinty on the phone, video calling one of them every now and again, just getting a wee update, watching a minute of the game. Yeah, it’s good to have a distraction. It’s good to have something to take your mind completely off what you’re trying to do. I’m sure I’ll be watching every game of the Euros.
