Blake Ferguson latest as Leigh Centurions concede defeat in race for Test winger

Blake Ferguson will not be joining Leigh Centurions, Rugby League Live has learned. The Australian winger is currently without a club and is attracting plenty of interest as he plots his next career move after an auspicious exit from Japanese rugby union earlier this year.

Rugby League Live revealed last month how Ferguson was on the radar of English clubs, with his management holding talks with several sides in the northern hemisphere about a sensational move for the former Test star.

Adrian Lam then confirmed that Leigh had held talks with Ferguson about a move - but Rugby League Live has now learned those talks have broken down, and Ferguson will not be a Leigh Centurions player after all, with the winger now likely to sign a deal elsewhere.

Where Ferguson lands remains to be seen, but if it is to be England, his opportunities appear limited on the surface. Any deal would see Ferguson take up a spot on the overseas quota, and in Super League, only two clubs - Warrington Wolves and Toulouse Olympique - have space remaining. Any other top-flight side in England would have to release a quota player to facilitate a deal for Ferguson.

Rugby League Live understands the Wolves have no interest in Ferguson and don't currently have the required salary cap space available to make such a signing. The Wolves would need to move players on to make signings but the Australia international is not on their radar regardless.

The Wolves, like several other clubs, would be open to shuffling their deck mid-season if the right player became available, but would come with the caveat of having to move a player on to facilitate a move. One plus point
