Salford Red Devils lead chase for Widnes Vikings' cannon forward

Salford Red Devils are in pole position to sign highly-rated Widnes Vikings forward Tyler Dupree. Rugby League Live understands the rampant forward has emerged as one of the most sought-after talents in the Championship following a string of impressive performances at the start of the season.

But despite interest from several Super League clubs, it is the Red Devils who are the frontrunners to secure his services ahead of the 2023 season.

A product of Leeds Rhinos' Academy system, the 22-year-old earned his stripes at Oldham after leaving the West Yorkshire club at the end of the 2020 season. He was named the Championship's young player of the year despite playing for the relegated Roughyeds after scoring ten tries in 18 appearances.

His form earned him a move to the Vikings where his form has continued and has seen him attract the attention of numerous clubs, including Salford. He has built a reputation for a ferocious first carry and destructive tackle.

Salford have made front-rowers a key priority for 2023 and in Dupree they have identified a young forward with potential who crucially will not take up an overseas player spot. The Red Devils will look to compliment Dupree's potential with more proven experience as part of their recruitment drive for next year.

Dupree will remain with Widnes for the rest of the season, but a Super League move beckons at the end of the year.
