Birmingham City manager Lee Bowyer has been 'relieved of his duties' after speculation

Lee Bowyer has reportedly parted company Birmingham City which brings an end to his 16-month reign at St Andrew's.

Bowyer was reportedly informed of the decision by the club after taking charge of his final training session on Saturday morning, according to The Mirror. The first team were then called into a meeting and informed of the immediate change at the club.

Blues' current Far East owners are in the process of selling the club however a possible deal with former Watford owner Laurence Bassini has stalled. Bassini's period of exclusivity has now expired after he failed to meet several deadlines due to investors having growing doubts regarding whether or not a deal would be passed by the EFL and FA.

Bassini had previously made his intentions clear of relieving Bowyer from his duties as manager and replacing him with former QPR boss Mark Warburton, who has since joined David Moyes' coaching staff at West Ham United.

Blues finished one place above the relegation zone last season - finishing the Championship campaign in 20th.
