Birmingham City made to wait for transfer windfall after Jude Bellingham revelation

Jude Bellingham has revealed he will stay at Borussia Dortmund next season thereby ending in one answer the maelstrom of speculation surrounding the former Birmingham City youngster’s future.

The 18-year-old, who joined Borussia from Blues in the summer of 2020, has had another excellent campaign for both club and country.

That has led to rumours regarding his future with reported interest from the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and even Real Madrid. Manchester United were also keen on the midfielder before he opted to leave Blues for the Bundesliga.

The imminent transfer of Erling Haaland to City means Bellingham is probably the main crown jewel in the German outfit’s squad. However, he has been quoted in the German press – and pictured in Dortmund’s new kit – saying he intends to stay put this summer.

He is quoted as saying: “The only future I think about is the next game for Dortmund. I'm really looking forward to next season. I can't wait for it to finally start. But yes, I will be here next season and I will be ready.”

That should put a stop to most of the speculation – for this summer at least – but it will also end any lingering hopes Blues had of cashing in on a sell-on clause inserted when he left St Andrew’s. Blues have refused to discuss any details of that clause but reports in Germany previously claimed they are due just five per cent of Dortmund’s profit. The club declined to comment on that when BirminghamLive asked about it in January.

Bellingham made 44 appearances in his breakthrough season at Blues and has so far made 89 over two seasons in Dortmund.
