Billy Gilmour hands Scotland major Euros boost as injury return timeline revealed

Billy Gilmour's Euros dream is still on track after the Scotland ace was given the good news he’ll be back in action by the end of the month.

National team boss Steve Clarke has been left sweating over the availability of one of his key midfield men ahead of this summer’s tournament in Germany. Gilmour limped off at Hampden during last week’s friendly defeat to Northern Ireland having suffered a knee injury while leaping into a rash tackle on former Motherwell defender Brodie Spencer.

Worryingly for Clarke, the Brighton ace has since posted a picture of himself wearing a knee brace as he sat out the Seagulls’ Anfield defeat to Liverpool on Sunday. But Record Sport understands the 22-year-old has been told he could be ready to go again with his English Premier League club within three to four weeks.

He’s likely to sit out English top flight clashes against Brentford, Arsenal and Burnley but is targeting a return for Roberto De Zerbi’s side when they host title-chasing Manchester City on April 25.

The former Rangers kid would then have five more club fixtures before the end of the campaign to get himself back up to top speed before Scotland begin their preparations for facing Euros hosts Germany in Munich on June 14 with warm-up clashes against Gibraltar and Finland.

Gilmour has been a vital figure for club and country of late. He’s made 36 appearances in all competitions for Brighton, including their run to the Europa League last 16. And he’s started all but two of Scotland’s eight internationals this year.
