'Big call' - Manchester United fans left baffled as Paul Pogba dropped against Atletico Madrid

Ralf Rangnick has shocked Manchester United fans by not including Paul Pogba in his starting XI for the Champions League showdown with Atletico Madrid.

With a place in the last eight at stake, the scores are level going into the second leg after the two sides played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg at the Wanda Metropolitano. It was Anthony Elanga who restored parity for United in that opener in response to an early header from Portuguese sensation Joao Felix.

Elanga has been given another chance to shine at Old Trafford tonight (8pm). Rangnick has made three changes from the side that beat Tottenham Hotspur last time out.

During his pre-match press conference, Rangnick confirmed that United have no fresh injury problems to contend with. However, he did raise a slight question mark over England defender Luke Shaw.

He has been unable to shake off those fitness concerns. Scott McTominay is fit enough to make his return, replacing Nemanja Matic. Bruno Fernandes also starts as Pogba and Marcus Rashford have to settle for a place on the bench.

As for Atletico, they boarded the plane to Manchester with several injury issues. Already missing Belgian star Yannick Carrasco through suspension, other first-team stars such as Daniel Wass, Sime Vrsaljko, Matheus Cunha and Thomas Lemar have missed out through injury.

Jose Gimenez (calf) and Geoffrey Kondogbia (muscle) were rated as doubtful, but both players feature - with Mario Hermoso joining Kondogbia on the bench.
