Bid to bolster midfield: Man United initiate contact with Rabiot's reps as Mount move hinders

Manchester United has made the first move by reaching out to Adrien Rabiot's representatives to discuss a potential transfer to the club.

According to The Athletic, the 28-year-old midfielder, who currently plies his trade at Juventus, will see his contract with the Italian giants expire at the end of June.

While Juventus are making efforts to convince Rabiot to extend his stay by a year, the Red Devils are determined to secure his services for their own ambitious plans.

Rabiot has established a strong rapport with Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri, and his performances last season showcased his immense talent and contribution to the team.

Man United had come close to signing Rabiot last summer, but negotiations stumbled when personal terms could not be agreed upon. However, the club is eager to revisit the possibility and explore the potential of finally bringing Rabiot to Old Trafford.

Interestingly, Rabiot's connection to Manchester is not entirely new. The French midfielder had a brief stint in Manchester City's academy back in 2008 before returning to his home country.

In December 2022, Rabiot publicly expressed his desire to experience English football, affirming his ambitions to play in the Premier League.

"I have always said that I'd like to play in England in my career," he stated.

"I still have that desire. I'd like to evolve in the Premier League. I haven't got a Premier League team in mind right now. I haven't chosen a team or anything. It's a general thing. It's the league, it's the level of play that's going on, that's what attracts me most. It corresponds to my qualities."

While negotiations with Rabiot progress, United is also actively pursuing other midfield targets.
