Ben Doak is Liverpool throwback as 'proper Scot' set for more Anfield exposure whether Salah leaves or not

Ben Doak has been tipped for a larger Liverpool role even if Mo Salah doesn't move to Saudi Arabia.

AL-Ittihad saw a £150million bid for the Egyptian rejected on Deadline Day. The SPL window doesn't close until today and they could try and twist Liverpool's arm one more time before they need to wait until January. However, the Anfield club and Jurgen Klopp are adamant that Salah won't be going anywhere and will remain on Merseyside.

Klopp isn't short of options up front even if Salah does decide to head to the Middle East. Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota are all competing for three places up front along with Salah. However, teenage talent Doak has been making an impact and is highly rated by Klopp and his staff. He's been handed cameos off the bench, but is expected to be used more in the Carabao Cup and Europa league between now and Christmas.

Former Reds striker John Aldridge likes what he sees from Doak. The Scotland Under 21 international was left out of Steve Clarke's full squad for this week's Euro 2024 qualifier in Cyprus and next week's Hampden friendly against England. But the consensus is that Doak will make the step up sooner rather than later.

And Aldridge sees Doak as a throwback to the decades when several of Scotland's were regualrs in the all conquering Liverpool teams aof the 1702' and 80s. He said: "Up front they've got five fantastic players and goalscorers, plus another lad who excites me as well - Ben Doak. I love his attitude.

"He's like one of the proper Scots who used to play for Liverpool. I think we'll see a lot of him so there's actually six attackers there."
