Belgian GP: Fernando Alonso's gesture to Lewis Hamilton after crash

A clip showing Fernando Alonso seemingly wagging his finger in disapproval at Lewis Hamilton as he drove past the Brit on the side of the track has gone viral online.

The return of Formula One from its summer break was not short of excitement, with a first lap collision between veterans Alonso and Hamilton forcing the Brit to retire from the Belgian Grand Prix.

The crash occurred early on as Hamilton tried to pass around the outside of Alonso, however, he collided with the Spaniard’s Alpine and caught his wheels, launching the Brit into the air for a moment, before forcing the Mercedes driver to retire later that round due to the damage caused.

While it is not great to see any driver have to retire from a race, Alonso certainly had no sympathy for Hamilton, exclaiming on the radio: “What an idiot closing the door from the outside.”

Alonso continued with his rant on Hamilton: “We had a mega start but this guy only knows how to drive and start in first.”

Harsh words coming from Alonso, who was Hamilton’s former teammate at McLaren over 15 years ago. However, it was a partnership that broke down into a fierce rivalry between the Spanish star and the then new rising rookie in Hamilton.

And it seems that despite 15 years on, there is no love lost between the two racing legends, with Alonso seen to be wagging his finger at the down-and-out Hamilton following their collision, as he drove past.
