Belgian GP: Carlos Sainz barely had any Ferrari support on the podium

Carlos Sainz secured another podium in his Ferrari as Formula One returned from the summer break in underwhelming fashion at Spa.

The iconic circuit was under threat of being axed from the calendar, but thankfully common sense prevailed and we will be returning to Spa next season.

However, the latest edition of the Belgian Grand Prix was rather boring despite offering so much with the mixed up grid following a string of grid penalties.

Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso collided on the opening lap, with the Brit unable to continue due to the damage caused. He parked his W13 up trackside, leading to a Safety Car being deployed.

That helped the likes of Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc to make up ground much easier after their penalties, removing some potential drama.

It was the same old story for the Scuderia, with issues plaguing them all weekend despite Sainz starting from pole.

Their weekend was summed up when they pitted Leclerc from fifth for soft tyres to take the fastest lap award, although they didn’t have the gap needed, losing the position to Alonso, leaving the Monegasque driver sixth come the chequered flag.

To add insult to injury, Leclerc wasn’t able to get the fastest lap after battling Alonso and then, to really twist the knife, Verstappen got the fastest lap to further his championship lead, it would take a disaster from Red Bull to lose it from here!
