'Beautiful football' — Manchester United fans rave about youth team moment vs Borussia Dortmund

Manchester United fans have been praising the club’s Under-19s side for their eye-catching football, despite being knocked out of the UEFA Youth League on Tuesday.

The young United side exited the competition at the last 16 stage on penalties after drawing 2-2 with Borussia Dortmund in the 90 minutes. Charlie McNeill and Rhys Bennett had equalised twice for the hosts at Leigh Sports Village before they went down 3-1 in the shoot-out.

Many supporters deemed United’s youngsters to have been worthy of the win, producing some slick football and they might have progressed but for some tight offside calls and a strong penalty claim turned down. The eventual loss did not distract United fans from the display put in by Neil Wood’s side.

Many took to Twitter to praise the team, expressing their excitement about future first team prospects and one move in particular for Alejandro Garnacho’s offside strike:

@dr_gowdru: Will Fish looks like a proper CB, so does his partner. Every one of those players looked so good yesterday. Charlie Savage was playing that defensive so well! It was a pleasure to watch!

@NathanByrne_ie : Great game. Great players. Awful penalties.

@Rvk2a: Some of these players look good we haven should have been a cricket score

@ronanto7: These U19 lads are very exciting and refreshing to watch.

@Bthuku_: This United U19 team progresses the ball way better than the first team.

@golmanigrac: I really love the way this #MUFC U19 team is playing, hopefully
