BBC Strictly Come Dancing 2023 reveals fourth star taking part and it's another famous newsreader

The fourth contestant to take part in Strictly Come Dancing 2023 has been unveiled.

On Friday, the first three stars on this year’s series of the hit BBC ballroom contest were revealed to be actress Amanda Abbington, newsreader Angela Rippon and Everybody’s Talking About Jamie actor Layton Williams.

On Claudia Winkleman’s BBC Radio 2 show on Saturday morning (August 5), the Strictly co-host revealed the fourth contestant on this year’s show will be none other than broadcaster and Channel 4 newsreader Krishnan Guru-Murthy.

"You only live once - I'm here for the joy, for the fun," he told Claudia when asked what made him say yes to the show. "I love my job, it's very, very privileged, I go to amazing places and talk to amazing people, but it's incredibly serious, it's quite stressful. It can be quite difficult.

"The idea of being able to have pure intravenous joy alongside, because I'm going to be doing the news at the same time, is just irresistible."

Krishnan, who joined Channel 4 News in 1998, is the second longest-serving presenter on the news programme after Jon Snow. He has been nominated for News Presenter of the Year award at the The Royal Television Society Journalism Awards in 2010 and 2014.

He has covered major events from the Omagh bombing to the 911 attacks and from the Arab Spring to the Ukraine War. He also commentates on live events for Channel 4 such as the Paralympics Ceremonies, and presents programmes outside the news including the first live televised Autopsy. He presents the Channel 4 News podcast Ways to Change the World.
