BBC Morning Live host suffers ‘massive’ fall with severe back pain

A BBC host suffered from a 'massive' fall during the latest episode of Morning Live while undertaking a fundraiser. Gethin Jones had been taking part in a 24-hour rollerskating challenge for Comic Relief alongside fellow host Helen Skelton.

Concerns were raised over whether Gethin would be able to continue the challenge following the fall due to a "bad back" which may have been made worse from the incident.

Commenting on the fall, fellow host Michelle Ackerley said: "It was make or break whether he could actually finish the challenge but he's determined to get to that finish line". Other people on today's Morning Live panel discussed the physical and emotional toll that the challenge had on the pair.

Dr Punam Krishnan said she visited the pair in the early hours of the morning as they were approaching the end of their challenge. She said: "They're putting on such brave smiles, but they are broken. I mean, if we just even look at the physical, mental, emotional toll it's taken.

"Their feet are covered in blisters, the muscles are cramping, mentioned there Gethin suffers from back pain that he's talked about before. He's been in a lot of pain and it's so exhausted and they are very emotional, you know, when that sunrise came up, like we all felt it for them. They're going to need a lot of TLC and recovery after this but they're putting their hearts into it."

Following the event, Gethin added: "That was a tough blow actually, because I've been struggling for a while. I was just trying to get a drink, which I've been doing a few times, but I just caught the side of the wall and I just felt this horrible pain then.

"It was so harsh because Helen, she didn't want to leave but she's got to keep going, and then I wasn't sure
