BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty stunned as Vera star addresses Brenda Blethyn's exit

Vera's creator Ann Cleeves has kept shtum regarding the exit of Brenda Blethyn from the beloved ITV series, anticipated to grace our screens the following year. Appearing on BBC Breakfast, Ann talked about her recent novel and gave little away about the show's concluding season, where fans will say goodbye to Brenda who has starred as DCI Stanhope since 2011.

Despite knowing the conclusion of her novels, Ann confessed to being in the dark about Brenda's departure from the hit drama, saying she is set to find out alongside viewers in their living rooms.

BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty questioned Ann on her feelings towards the TV adaptation, to which she responded: "I do yeah, I think they capture the essence of the books and the atmosphere of the place, and that's far more important than details of the plot."

Naga, taken aback by this revelation, probed further, "Really? It is more important than the plot?" She went on to inquire how the final series would conclude, querying if it was odd for Ann not to know the endgame of the tenth series.

Ann acknowledged this peculiarity, confessing: "I guess, but I don't want to know," expressing a desire to discover the ending of the series in real-time with a glass of wine in hand, just like any other viewer, reports the Express.

Naga appeared perplexed, mentioning that the series is an adaptation of Ann's own literary works. She then quizzed the author on her involvement with the TV series.
