BBC Breakfast leaves viewers fuming over 'missing' presenter and 'new' format

BBC Breakfast sparked a debate this weekend when Ben Thompson had to anchor the programme solo.

Alone on the iconic red sofa, Ben was left coordinating links to field reporters for various stories, with Sarah Rogers reporting live from Southport about an impending memorial service for the victims of a recent triple stabbing incident.

Weather presenter Sarah Keith-Lucas was also available for updates yet it was up to Ben to largely manage the show by himself.

Typically joined by co-host Luxmy Gopal on weekends, the deviation from the norm did not go unnoticed among viewers, with one user querying: "How come there's no [woman] on the sofa today? Sunday should be a Luxmy day!"

Another chimed in: "Missus just wondered why is there only one presenter on Sunday's BBC Breakfast but two during weekdays?" While another user speculated: "I was wondering as well. Holidays, sickness, people on social media moaning about not liking the different pairings?", reports the Express.

Recently, the beloved morning programme has undergone significant changes to its timetable due to the BBC covering the Olympics, taking over the slot on BBC One from 8am an hour before Breakfast's usual end time. During the week, the broadcast transitions to BBC Two at 8am, but on weekends it ends entirely, leaving spectators perplexed.

Discontent amplified among loyal fans when the show unexpectedly did not air on Saturday (August 3), with upset comments surfacing online including one from a user exasperatingly posting: "Oy, what's going on thought we turn over to BBC Two dear lord!"
