Bavuma being 'eased' back as Proteas find their World Cup groove Down Under

Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma continues to recover from a mild infection and is expected to feature in Wednesday's final T20 World Cup warm-up match against Bangladesh in Brisbane.

Bavuma, the subject of much attention given his lack of form presently, did not feature in Monday's nine-wicket win over New Zealand, also in Brisbane.

With Keshav Maharaj operating as stand-in captain, South Africa bowled out the Black Caps for just 98 before cruising home.

It was a hugely encouraging performance, with spinners Tabraiz Shamsi (2/6) and Maharaj (3/17) the standouts with the ball before Rilee Rossouw (54* off 32) took the Proteas home.

"Temba Bavuma eased into training yesterday and is working towards featuring in Wednesday's warm-up match against Bangladesh. Keshav Maharaj will captain the side today," Cricket South Africa said in a statement before the fixture.

"It's been a long three days, but I think the guys are finding their groove. We're still trying to acclimatise with regards to the time zone, but I'm sure sooner rather than later, the boys will be fully Aussie," said Maharaj.

"I thought Shammo (Shamsi) bowled very well. We know he's a world-class performer. Everyone goes through various transitions in their career, and it's good to see
