Bavuma disappointed in Proteas' fielding display: 'It's definitely not the standard'

Proteas captain Temba Bavuma expressed his disappointment in the fielding and bowling display following their 33-run (DLS) loss to Pakistan on Thursday.

South Africa's seam attack struck early as Pakistan were reeling at 68-4, but half-centuries by Iftikhar Ahmed and Shadab Khan got Pakistan back into the game.

Ahmed shared a 52-run partnership with Mohammad Nawaz (28) and then an 82-run partnership with Khan as the Proteas leaked runs at the death.

Pakistan scored a whopping 117 runs in the last 10 overs as Ahmed struck 51 off 35 balls and Shadab Khan brought up a quick-fire 52 off 22 balls.

Despite Anrich Nortje capturing four for 41, Pakistan posted a competitive 185-9 in their 20 overs.

Bavuma admits that their bowlers couldn't find the right consistency and lengths as Pakistan changed the momentum of the game.

"When you have a team at 50/5, the last thing you're thinking is they're going to get to 180, 190. Maybe that's probably where the problem lies. The problem lied with us as a team," Bavuma told reporters on Thursday.

"I think the hard lines with bowlers, that's been something we've spoken a lot, and that's been very successful for us as a unit. Guys using the pace, guys using their height.

"On that wicket, especially when it started sliding into the wicket and the short boundaries were in play, that is once they started being able to exploit that, and they really put us under pressure," he continued.

"I think we allowed probably three or four overs to kind of go by where they got a bit of momentum, and by the time we tried to change, a lot of damage had been done.
