Barry Robson lifts lid on Aberdeen mega party that saw him foot bevy bill HIMSELF after last trophy win
The last time Aberdeen won the League Cup it cost Barry Robson a fortune.
The Dons manager had to foot the bar bill for the bus trip back from Celtic Park. Robson had been late for a pre-match meeting and instead of taking a fine he told his Aberdeen teammates he would pay for the celebratory drinks on the way back to the Granite City. Derek McInnes’ side went on beat Inverness Caledonian Thistle on penalties to lift the League Cup and Robson had to foot a rather costly bar bill as his team forced him round Tesco with a trolley to start their 2013 League Cup celebrations.
Robson will be hoping for a more sober evening on Saturday but is desperate for his class of 2023 to see off Hibs and set up a potential Viaplay Cup Final return. The Dons boss, when asked about footing the bill, confirmed: “I did indeed because I was late for a team meeting.
“The annoying thing about that was I was actually sitting in the hotel room and I was thinking, ‘I’ve got to wait another 15 minutes’. I was sitting around waiting but not realising the team meeting was actually now! So it wasn’t like I was late. I was sitting waiting in my room. I remember coming down to the meeting and they were the happiest team I have ever seen. There were set fines and I turned round and said to them, ‘I’m not paying a fine!
“But I’ll tell you what I’ll do. Go and win the cup and if we win the cup I’ll buy the biggest carryout you have ever seen’. They were right, ‘let’s do that!’ And I tell you what – they did do that! That was a sore one on my bank balance.
“They were just going into the shop and grabbing bottles of anything, I mean anything, and half of the stuff never got touched. It was just to try to do me in. I don’t know where all that alcohol went but
