Barry Robson insists Aberdeen demands are no problem as new boss tries to follow in Fergie's footsteps

Barry Robson has insisted he can cope with the demands of being an Aberdeen manager and trying to follow in the footsteps of there successful managers from Sir Alex Ferguson to Derek McInnes.

The former Scotland international was named as the Dons new boss on a two year contract earlier this week. Robson stepped in as an interim boss but a great run of seven consecutive wins has seen him land the job. He has worked as a player, coach and manager at Pittodrie and knows there will be an exception to build on their proud history and deliver success like their greatest ever manager Ferguson and McInnes did. Robson won the League Cup under McInnes and then started his coaching career in 2016 under him at Pittodrie, which has now led to him getting the job as their main man.

He said: “It’s a privilege to manage a club of this stature. There’ve been some terrific managers here so I am following in the footsteps of top, top managers. We’ll work as hard as we can to be successful. First and foremost I believe the demands at a club like Aberdeen are there. And they have been there from some terrific managers such as the great Sir Alex Ferguson.

“You go through all the top managers to Derek McInnes, really good, successful managers. The fans demand that, especially the people of Aberdeen. I am an Aberdonian so I know what they are like and I know what the demands are.

“They want you to work and to be humble. They want you to hopefully try to win and if you do that they will come with you.”

It has been a long journey as Robson has built up his coaching career to finally step into management. He admitted he put so much into his playing career it was a relief when he hung up his boots.

That didn’t stop him embarking on his coaching
